ABOUT THE JOB

The position of Embedded Software Engineer is at America Free Zone, Heredia, Costa Rica supporting to top leading industry customers around the world.  This role will participate in feature definition, requirement verification, and design methodologies as part of a dynamic Agile team. This individual will contribute as part of team to promote a culture of quality to resolve product issues before field release. The ideal candidate will value culture as much as technical skill.

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

We are looking for Embedded Software Engineers at all levels of seniority, from Associates to Principals to join our team in HCL Costa Rica. You will be part of a team that will:

·       Understands the customer’s requirements and quality expectations and define a technical design of existing and/or new product development enterprises.

·       Work in project governance and enterprise customer management.

·       Help with detailed design of product, hardware and software, including risk management, driver development, embedded software programming, automation testing and control of documentation and source code.

·       Manage complex embedded software and hardware architecture development for a large-scale highly regulated medical device´s company.

·       Evaluate and mitigate risk on new and existing product and process development incursions for medical devices, among other responsibilities.

RESPONSIBILITIES / A DAY AS A EMBEDDED SOFTWARE ENGINEER:

·       Proactively gain proficiency as an expert user of team’s software products to understand users’ experience and quality expectations.

·       Interact with medical devices in the design of embedded systems for new or existing enterprises.

·       Translate feature requirements for functionality, performance, functional and automotive safety, and security (among others) into testable user stories.

·       Adhere to regulatory standards associated with verification of medical systems.

·       Support investigation of reported field issues to identify root cause.

·       Provide design review feedback to foster embedded system design and testing best practices within the team.

·       Contribute to implementation and deployment of the embedded software into the embedded system in the medical device product to be designed.

·       Maintain source code for developed tools utilized within the design process.

·       Develop new strategies for embedded architecture design and testing to optimize the medical device product design.

·       Promote new technologies and design practices within the team.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS / QUALITIES WE LOOK FOR:

·       Demonstrated ability as a self-learner.

·       Proficient with object-oriented programming using high-level language structure in C and C++ and algorithm design for Embedded Systems.

·       BS degree in technical discipline such as (but not limited to): Software Engineering, Computer Science & Information Systems, Computer Engineer, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering and Electronic Engineering; and at least 4 years of relevant technical experience in programming and testing.

·       At least 3 years of embedded software testing and/or programming experience where demonstrated experience on

o   Embedded processors (e.g. ARM, DSP, and microcontrollers).

o   Low level driver development and defect fix (e.g. I2C, SPI UART).

o   Operating Systems (e.g. Linux, Windows, FreeRTOS, TI-RTOS, SafeRTOS), IO Interface and system level programming.

·       At least 1 year of IDE, RFPs, software debugging and hardware troubleshooting (e.g. using Oscilloscope, Segger Debugger, GitLab, Bitbucket, JTAG debugger).

·       At least an English Level B2 (70%-79%).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS / BONUS POINT IF YOU HAVE:

·       Experience in Medical Devices Design and/or Medical Devices Quality Management Systems.

·       3+ years in Medical device industry either Manufacturing, Operations or Research & Development.

·       3+ years of experience Providing solutions for embedded architecture and working on RFPs (Request for Proposal).

·       Experience with Agile software development lifecycle.

·       Experience with object-oriented programming using other programming languages like (but not limited to): Python, Java, Rust, Verilog; LabView, Ada, among others.

·       Experience in Python scripting or Sheel Scripts for automation testing.

·       Experience in Static code analysis tools using BLE design and development.

·       Hands-on experience on wireless/wire communication protocols such as BT/BLE/Wi-Fi/UART/SPI/I2C/USB.

·       Background with healthcare industry and associated technologies (ex. HL7 communication).

·       Any ASTQB (American Software Testing Qualifications Board) certification.

·       Experience utilizing Agile development tools for project management and bug tracking (ex. TFS, Jira, or Rally).

·       Experience in unit testing, sanity testing, smoke testing, release build processes.

·       Experienced in embedded software/firmware testing (e.g. using Linux, FreeRTOS, and Micrium RTOS).

·       Experience in review of Design documentations.

·       Familiarity with software version control (Git or equivalent).

·       Familiarity with industry standard processes for test design and test management.

·       Experience at an international / Multinational manufacturing company.
